Do you struggle with urinary issues?

  • Overactive Bladder / Frequent Urination
    • Overactive bladder is characterized by the frequent, strong, and sudden urge to urinate. This syndrome can greatly disrupt your life. Overactive bladder is can also be associated with urinary incontinence. Overactive bladder can be caused by a number of factors, including injury to the pelvic floor while giving birth, congenital issues, injury, and even grief, stress, or pain.
    • Research has found that acupuncture may reduce symptoms of overactive bladder and improve quality of life for people struggling with frequent urination.
  • Urinary Incontinence
    • Urinary incontinence is when a person leaks urine by accident. While it can happen to anyone, urinary incontinence is most common in older women.
    • Studies have shown that acupuncture can improve symptoms for patients struggling with urinary incontinence.
  • Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections
    • Urinary Tract Infections occur when there is an infection in the urinary system. Most UTI’s are bacterial. Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections include pain and difficulty peeing, low belly pain, feeling as though you’re unable to fully empty your bladder, frequent urination, and urine that smells foul, is cloudy, and/or contains blood.
    • Acupuncture has been found to support function of the bladder and kidney systems, including decreasing symptoms from recurrent UTIs and helping address deeper issues that may be responsible for bladder inflammation and pressure.
  • Neurogenic Bladder
    • Neurogenic Bladder is when a person lacks bladder control due to problems in the brain, spinal cord, or nerves. Neurogenic Bladder is  also known as Neurogenic Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction. There are numerous In order for the bladder to hold urine until you are ready to urinate, several muscles and nerves must work together. Nerve messages go back and forth between the brain and the muscles that control urination. If these nerve messages are harmed by injury or illness, the muscles responsible for urination may not be able to relax or tighten at the right time. This is the case of neurogenic bladder; the nerves and muscles do not work well together, which resulting in the bladder not filling or emptying in the right way.
    • Preliminary research suggests that acupuncture can support a balanced bladder, and may significantly decrease the time it takes to heal from injury-based neurogenic bladder issues.
  • Kidney Infections
    • Kidney infections are a type of urinary tract infection (UTI) that typically occur when bacteria moves from the bladder to one or both kidneys. Kidney infections can be much more serious than UTIs of the lower urinary tract. Symptoms of kidney infections include difficulty urinating, lower back pain, fever, and pain during urination.
    • Acupuncture may reduce symptoms of pain and frequent urination and support kidney health.
  • Kidney Stones
    • Kidney stones are hard objects that are made from chemicals in the urine. There are four different types of kidney stones: uric acid, calcium oxalate, cystine, and struvite. Common symptoms of kidney stones include severe pain in the lower back, fever, chills, blood in your urine, nausea, vomiting, and/or urine that looks cloudy or smells foul.
    • Acupuncture treatment has been found to greatly reduce the pain of kidney stones — one study found it worked to relive pain even faster than pharmacological medications.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny, thin needles at specific points on the body, stimulating the nervous system and releasing chemicals into the spinal cord, muscles, and brain. These biochemical changes in turn may stimulate the body’s innate natural healing abilities, and promote physical and emotional well-being. In particular, acupuncture has been found to be a very powerful pain remedy as it stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain reliever.
